Masonic

Cedar Lodge, No. 124, A. F. & A. M. – Organized in the year 1853. Jas. H. Roseman, W.M.; H.C. Hitchcock, Secretary.

Orient Chapter, No. 31, R. A. M. – Organized in 1855. L. Irons, H.P.; N. Quadland, Scribe.

Blaney Commandery, K. T., No. 5 – Constituted in the year 1858. C.H. Goold, E.C.; J.W. Tatham, Recorder

Star Lodge, No. 75 – Organized in 1851. C. Condon, N.G.

Daughters of Rebecca, No. 68 – Organized in 1874 – N. Robinson, N.G.

Shaboneh Encampment, No. 135 – Organized in 1873. J. Nelson, C.P.

Morris Library Association – Organized in 1873. City Hall building. Library contains 1,000 volumes at present. Levi Pierce, President; W. D. Hitchcock, Secretary; L. Irons, Treasurer; J. Gorich, Librarian.

Morris Cornet Band – Organized in 1874. Meets in old High School building, on East Jackson street. S.F. Hull, Leader.

Grundy County Societies

Ancient Order of Hibernians, No. 7 – Organized in 1876. Meets at hall in Cunnea’s block. Martin Hynds, President.

St. George’s Association – Established in 1866. George Taylor, President; John B. Kaye, Secretary.

Father Matthew’s Temperance Society – Organized in 1870. Meets in Catholic Parochial School House. James Reardon, President.

Morris Cemetery Association – The Cemetery was laid out and a charter granted in 1853. It lies two miles east of the city, and is beautifully situated and well adapted for burial purposes. It is managed by officers who spare no pains to keep it in good condition. John B. Davidson, President; L.P. Lott, Secretary and Treasurer; George M. Jones, Sexton.

Roman Catholic Cemetery – The new Cemetery is one and a half miles west of the city. It is managed by a board of five members, consisting of the pastor and four lay members of the congregation, who are annually elected.
