Friedrich Lech immigrated from Germany to Coal City in 1882 with his family. I have record of his naturlization in 1892, but can’t find any trace of him after that. Eventually the family moved to WI and his wife Augusta was listed as a widow. I assume he was a miner, but any information regarding him and the family would be greatly appreciated.

On 17th Match 1862, a wedding took place in Grundy, IL. Bride was the well documented Inger Dollar (Dahle) born 1839 in Norway, But husband Erick Thompson , obviously also from Norway, born about 1837 ,remains a mystery. There is a large Thomson family in/around Lisbon, but no Erick (Erik) has been found.
Family tradition gives his homestead in Norway to be around the “Bergen district”, but that covers most of South West Norway.
    Any assistance/clues are welcome .

I appreciate being requested to share such searh with other students of the early emigrasjon to Illinois and parts of Iowa. My challenge relates to the missing register of part of a Norwegian family that arrived to Lisbon area in the summer of 1854. It was a father with two daugters and two sons. The two sisters Elizabeth and Caroline I have followed throughout their confirmtion in the Lisbom Chorch, their first dommistic jobs outside home, and their later marriages to well recorded and docuented husbands. Their father, Reier Christophersen is totally absent from all census , land processions or chhurch records before he in 1870 sudenly appear as farmhand with his sister and son.n law, ( Caroline C and Ole H.Jensen) at their fsrm in Saratoga /G rundy.(then recorded as Richard Richardsen , 74 years old) 10 years later , he is still living with his son in la, but now registered as Ryer Ryerson 84 years old) . After 1880 I have not managed to locate his whereabout, and wheras the burial grounds for the rest of the family is easily found in the nearby cemetiries in Grundy and Kendall, Reier has dissapeared into thin air.
Same also for the two boyes 1) Christian ( born in Stavanger, Norway 28/1 1835, and2) Andreas(Andrew) born same place 22/9 1838. No records are found, inclusive search in all census, military records and church records. I spent days talking to old citizens in Lasalle, Kendall and Grundy; inclusive Morris, Newark, Norway and Lisbon , when i first visted the area about 20 years ago. But avail. Searching the records of Veterheim and other collections has not brought any more light on the mystory. I now again have started new search on behlf of the descendens of the two sisters, and for the remaining family in Norway… surely someone must know…
Guidance, The said Reier Christpherson/( Ryerson) is my own great-great-grandfather, and I am an offspring from a son left behind in Stavanger when the rst of the family emigrated ny the vessel NIORD in april 1854.

Obviously some of you have similar challenge(es) on hand, and I assure that I shall search for clues in my many notes collected over the last 25 years of active research.

My great-great Grandfather, Ryer Christophersen (Ryersen) , born in Stavanger, Norway 1797 left Norway in April 1854 with 5 children . He most probably passed Chicago on his way to meet up with Norwegian friends in the region. I have searched for his early whereabout, but always in vain. What I do know is that he lodged as an old man with his daughter and son-in law in Saratoga in 1880. Of the 5 children only a son and two girls grew up. Of the son I know absolutely nothing, but his daughters got married in the 1860s. Thus. Caroline , b. 1843 got married to Ole H. Johnson a well kown civil war veteran. In 1880 they are registered living in Saratoga twp . Her sister Elizabeth (b. 1841) was living with husband Torris (Terris) Johmson in Big Grove, Kendal at the same time. Any information about Ryer (Reier) and his children, particularly covering their first decades of life in US, would be appreciated as I intend to include the family in a special article about these early settlers.

Looking for NELSON, Ever or Iver immigrated to Morris about 1863-1866. An article from US Genweb of 2006 gave his wife’s name as Julia and they brought their infant son Gunner from Norway. I cannot confirm that Julia is the wife’s name… I do find Sarah and Severt living in Morris in 1917 and find Iver Nelson and wife Clara with son Gunner in 1880 US Census in Milks Grove, IL.

I find the marriage of Gunner to Hattie McConnell in 1887 and they remained in Morris raising 9 children. Their oldest daughter was named Julia Matilda (the names of paternal and maternal grandmothers?) OR a mistake in the article for Ever’s wife’s name.

I am researching the family of my great grandmother Laura Quigley who lived in Morris. Laura’s father was Merrit Quigley and mother was Frances Atchison. Merrit’s sisters married into the Hoge family. Merrit and his brother, Earl appear to have worked for the railroad and Merrit was involved with the Morris Fire Dept.
Other family names in the Morris area:

    Alexander McClaskey

Also looking for any information about the confectionary store that my great great grandmother, Mrs. M. J. Quigley purchased from J D Alsdurf in 1893.

I am searching the Kepplinger family. Some are buried in the Goodfarm Cemetery, Grundy Illinois. I am looking for Matilda (King or Koenig ) Kepplinger, late wife of J. Christ Kepplinger. I believe she died in 1883, born 1856. She would be th mother of my great grandfather Herman Atto or Otto Kepplinger. I can find her nowhere. I wonder if she is located the Goodfarm cemetery. it is said she was laid with her 4 months old infant. I don’t know if it correct.

I found her in the 1880 Census. I also found the obit for her husband and it appears she went by Tillie King as well. She was his 2nd wife. Herman Otto was only child with Christopher except for the one that died in infancy. It’s not letting me save the images. if you would like them email me at [email protected]

I am searching for information on my great grandfather who according to
his obituary lived in Grundy County, Saratoga Township, Illinois from 1870-1883.
His name was Austin Thomas Hudson. He is noted on the 1880 census as a boarder
and his occupation is farm hand. He was on the S. Dawson farm. That is all I know
about his time in Illinois. He moved to Minnesota in 1883. Nancy Fisch
