Will of Samuel Cockeram

August, 1879

The Last Will and Testament of Samuel Cockeram, Made and published the 2nd day of August, 1879. Filed for Probate. Proved and recorded December 6, 1879.

The Last Will and Testament of Samuel Cockeram of the City of Morris in the County of Grundy and State of Illinois made and published the second day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Nine.

I Samuel Cockeram of the City of Morris in the County of Grundy and State of Illinois of the age of seventy six years, and being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make, publish and declare this my LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT in manner following, that is to say:

FIRST – It is my will that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid.

SECOND – I give and devise to my daughter Emma Griggs the North 40 feet of Lots 9 & 10 in Block 20 in Chapin’s second addition to the Town of Morris, The North eight-five feet of Lot five in Block One in Chapin’s Addition to the Town of Morris, Lot Twelve (12) in Block Two (2) in the County’s Addition to Morris, and eight (8) rods front and ten (10) rods back in the northeast corner of Block eighteen (18) of Canal Trustees addition to Morris, also block nineteen (19) of said Canal Trustees Addition to Morris, except one and one half (1 1/2) acres off the east side of said lot or block 19, and also except ten (10) rods square out of the northwest corner of said lot or block nineteen. I also give devise and bequeath to my said daughter Emma Griggs Block or Lot twenty seven (27) of the Canal Trustees addition to Morris to have and to hold the above described property unto my said daughter Emma the use issues and profits thereof for and during the term of her natural life and at her death to her legal heirs.

Third – I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Mary Ann Baker the north forty (40) feet of Lot twenty two (22) in Block eight (8) in Canal Trustees addition to Morris, to have and to hold the use of the same with the rents issues and profits thereof for and during the term of her natural life, and at her death to descend to her legal heirs. I also give and bequeath to my said daughter Mary Ann Baker five hundred dollars in money to be paid to her as soon after my death as this settlement of my estate will admit.

Fourth – I give and bequeath to my son William Cockeram the sum of Five hundred dollars in money to be paid to him as soon after my death as the settlement of my estate will admit.

Fifth – I give devise and bequeath to my son Samuel Cockeram the west half of the south east quarter of section thirty six (36) in Township thirty two (32) north in range six (6) east of the third principal meridian and the east fifteen (15) acres of the south one hundred and ten (110) acres of the south west quarter of said section thirty six (36) town and range aforesaid to have and to hold the use issues and profits thereof for and during the term of his natural life and at his death to descend to his legal heirs.

Sixth – I give devise and bequeath to my son Benjamin Cockeram the west twenty five (25) acres of the west ninety five (95) acres of the south one hundred and ten (110) acres of the south west quarter of section thirty six (36) in Township thirty two (32) north in range six (6) east of the third principal meridian, to have and to hold the same with the rents issues and profits thereof for and during the term of his natural life and at his death to descend to his legal heirs.

Seventh – I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Isham the east seventy (70) acres of the west ninety five (95) acres of the south one hundred and ten (110) acres of the south west quarter of section thirty six (36) in Township thirty two (32) north, in range six (6) east of the third principal meridian to have and to hold the same with the rents and issues and profits thereof for and during the term of his natural life and at his death to descend to his legal heirs.

Eighth – I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Catharine Cockeram the residue of my estate of every kind and nature not herein above otherwise disposed of.

LASTLY – I hereby nominate and appoint my son in law Jacob Griggs and my son Samuel Cockeram to be the Executors of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, the second day of August, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy Nine.  (Signed)  Samuel Cockeram.

The above Instrument, consisting of one sheet was now here subscribed by Samuel Cockeram the Testator, in the presence of each of us: and was at the same time declared by him to be his Last Will and Testament, and we, at his request, sign our names hereto in his presence as attesting witnesses, the inter ???? between the third and fourth ??? sixth bequest made before signing.
