William Wood was born ca 1832 in Scotland. On June 29, 1862 he enlisted as a Private in Company I of the 69th Illinois Infantry at Morris, IL. He was discharged September 27, 1862, at the expiration of his term of service at Camp Douglas, IL. On January 26, 1889, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork provides the following disabilities: Disease of his lungs and heart. He was admitted on January 28, 1889, registered number 1144. He received a pension on certificate number 563,761. His pension was filed July 19, 1890, in Illinois, application # 811,065. He does not list any relatives, states he is single, and has no children under 16 years of age.
William Wood died on February 25, 1894, at the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home Hospital; the cause of death Oedema of lungs from heart disease. His burial information is not recorded in his paperwork.
