George Westfall
1832 - 1913


George Westfall was born April 3, 1832 in New York. He enlisted at Chicago in Company E of the 19th Illinois Infantry as a Private on June 4, 1861. He re-enlisted on March 3, 1862, at Morris in Company H of the 53rd Illinois Infantry as a Private. He was discharged at the close of the war on July 28, 1865, at Jefferson Barracks, KY. On May 13, 1905, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork states he was 73 years old and a resident of Morris, Grundy County, IL. He was not married and had no children. Mrs. Lydia A. Weatherwax of West Sand Lake, NY, was listed to receive notification in the event of his death. Old age was listed as his disability for admission. He was admitted July 4, 1905, registered number 7088. He received a pension under certificate # 1042015, $12.00/month. George Westfall died of influenza at the Home on January 21, 1913, and is buried in Sunset Cemetery at the Home.
