John Miller was born February 18, 1847, in Mercer County, PA. He enlisted at Ottawa, IL, in Henshaw's Battery, Light Artillery, on January 28, 1863. On May 4, 1904, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork states he was a resident of Morris, Grundy County, IL. Chronic Rheumatism was listed as his disability for admission. He was admitted May 4, 1904, registered number 6710. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage in the Home's Hospital on May 19, 1925 and is buried at Sunset Cemetery, Adams County. His pension was $6.00/month, certificate # 415507, Sergeant Cottage 17. His wife was Elvira Miller, 456 E. 50th Street North, Portland, OR. His children are listed as: Eli J. Miller, Morris; Cora H. Hutchings, Wauponsee; Miss Eva C. Miller, Morris; Bert Miller, Wauponsee; and May Miller, Morris; all of Grundy County IL.
