James H. Massey

James H. Massey was born September 11, 1830, in Orange County, VA. He enlisted in Company E of the 25th Wisconsin Volunteers as a Corporal on August 9, 1862. He was discharged at the close of the war June 7, 1865, at Washington, D.C. On February 21, 1884, James Massey was living in Maitland, Douglas County, Dakota Territory. On December 29, 1902, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork states he was a resident of Morris, Grundy County, IL, married, and had 5 adult children. He listed is occupations as that of a broken down old school teacher. His wife was listed as Jane Y. Massey and children, William; Mima; James H.; Samuel M.; and Emma M.; all of Morris, Grundy County. Lumbago and chronic rheumatism were listed as his disabilities for admission. He was admitted January 3, 1903, registered number 6205. He received a pension under certificate # 417065, $12.00/month. He was discharged from the Home on June 29, 1903.
