1842 - 1917
John Marrow was born June 25, 1842, in Drogstown, County of Roscommon, Ireland. He enlisted in Company H of the 36th Iowa Infantry as a Corporal on August 5, 1862, at Ottumwa, Iowa. He was discharged at the close of the war August 24, 1865, at Duvalls Bluff, AR. On November 19, 1896, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork states he was a resident of Morris, Grundy County, IL, was not married, had no children and listed his sister, Mrs. Mary Brown, of Lemont, Cook County IL as his nearest relative. She was also named on his will. Chronic bronchitis and varicose veins were listed as his disabilities for admission. He was admitted December 5, 1896, registered number 3833. He received a pension under certificate # 633199, $6.00/month. He died in the Home's Hospital on May 6, 1917 and is buried in Sunset Cemetery, Adams County IL.
