Samuel Kenney was born ca 1843. He enlisted in Company A of the 3rd U.S. Colored Artillery in October, 1864 in Cairo, IL. He was discharged at Memphis, TN in October, 1865. On May 2, 1893, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork provides the following disabilities: Heart Disease. He was admitted on May 2, 1893, registered number 2530. He received a pension under certificate # 566538. He died of Phthisis Pulmonaliss on June 16, 1893, at the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home Hospital and may be buried at Sunset Cemetery at the Home.
