Daniel Kennedy

Daniel Kennedy was born ca 1839 in Maryland. August 10, 1861 he enlisted as a Private in Company G of the 36th Illinois Infantry at Camp Hammon, near Aurora, IL. He was discharged September 22, 1864, with the rank of Sergeant at the expiration of his term of service at Atlanta, GA. On July 28, 1890, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL, after his residency at the Soldiers and Sailors Home near Milwaukee, WI. His admission paperwork provides the following disabilities: Gunshot wounds in left hip, right thigh, right wrist, and left leg, he is also suffering with disease of throat lungs and stomach kidneys and liver. He was admitted on August 8, 1890, registered number 1655. He received a pension of $8.00 per month on certificate number 481,212. His pension was filed August 23, 1889, in Wisconsin, application # 724,279. His paperwork does not list any relatives, states he is single, and has no children under 16 years of age.

Daniel Kennedy died on February 5, 1893, at the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home Hospital; the cause of death or burial information was not provided in his paperwork. The 1929 Roll of Honor database lists a Daniel Kennedy interred in Sunset Cemetery (the Home's cemetery). However, the list does not provide unit/regiment information or dates of birth/death to determine if this is the same Daniel Kennedy. Nathaniel McBride, County Surveyor, was appointed Administrator of his estate upon his death.
