Richard Gainor

Richard Gainor was born March 17, 1845, in Troy, Rensselaer County, NY. He enlisted at Woodstock, IL, in Company H of the 16th Illinois Cavalry as a Private on December 9, 1862. He was discharged at the close of the war on August 19, 1865, at Nashville, TN. On December 10, 1903, he applied for admission to the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Quincy, IL. His admission paperwork states he was a resident of Morris, Grundy County, IL. He was not married, had two children, ages 31 and 34. Hattie James of Elmore County, AL, is listed to receive notification in the event of his death. Kidney trouble and an old wound in his right foot were listed as his disabilities for admission. He was admitted December 10, 1903, registered number 6581, cottage number 15. He received a pension under certificate # 326837, $12.00/month. He was discharged from the Home on Oct 13, 1904; Oct 21, 1912; and Mar 7, 1914.
